We don’t just talk the talk we like to think that we walk the walk too. In fact, Agar is a substance used in creating biological cultures in laboratories so we decided to name ourselves after it. We believe that by getting your culture right your people will benefit and so will your business. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to culture and we work closely with you to understand your business and what you want your business to achieve. By doing this we are able to design a bespoke approach to develop your culture and develop your people.
But what is culture? Company culture can be defined as the culmination of values, vision, language, behaviours and beliefs that make up your company’s unique operating environment. Although the personality of a business may be difficult to articulate, it can and does have a huge impact on how your staff deal with each other, your customers and other stakeholders. That is why we believe that getting the culture right should be a key aim for any dynamic business. After all, strategy is what you say you will do but culture is what you actually do. In the words of the Harvard Business Review ‘culture trumps strategy’ every time.
Through our experience of working with complex multinational and multi-site organisations and running our businesses we have developed the tools which we believe can ensure a culture of success is cultivated. We do this through a number of different means but our ultimate aim is to ensure your business strategy is aligned to your people strategy.
Firstly, we take the time to understand the current culture. We do this through our unique ‘temperature take’ approach. We work with you to understand your business needs and aims and then with your staff to understand the current temperature within the business and formulate a strategy on how to improve it align the two. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach but common themes which often emerge include a need for improved leadership development, greater self-awareness of team members, encouraging managers and staff to have open and positive communications and challenging teams to perform at their potential.
